Apart from our principal activities, our aim is to evolve through the years and expand our operations on alternative industrial items.
Durum Wheat
In Greece we produce about one million tons of
durum wheat (hard variety of the grain used to make pasta and couscous) out of
which about 700 thousand tons are consumed domestically. The balance is being
exported mostly to Italy and North African countries (Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco).
Hecot's entry into durum wheat sector was initiated
by the so called fight for acreage between cotton and wheat. As our strategy is
to expand our business operations and act whenever opportunities arise, we have
decided to diversify by entering the durum wheat sector. In this initial step
we have focused on bringing together reliable suppliers & buyers of
domestic market.
Successfully, we have already started supplying the biggest
pasta producer in the Balkans (Melissa-Kikizas/ www.melissa.gr/en/). Being an export
orientated company our next target is to develop similar business channels overseas.
Cocoa:
Recently, Hecot S.A. has engaged itself also in the cocoa trading. Although this sector does not appear to be related to our core business, its attributes as a raw material, allow us to handle it in a most skillful way.
One of the major international merchants (ECOM AGROINDUSTRIAL CORPORATION LTD) whom we represent exclusively on the Greek market has been active in the cocoa industry since 1980. Our very close and successful relationship with Ecom’s cotton division enabled and motivated us to further expand our operations in the Greek cocoa industry and introduce Ecom’s cocoa products (beans, powder, cake, butter, liquor) under the Zamacom brand name on the Greek market.
Following a deep research of our market we came into
the conclusion that desalination projects in Greece will sooner than later
become a rather promising business sector. This fact enabled us to work on the
direction of committing ourselves with the most reliable and market leading
companies of water treatment. Our aim is to specialize in SWRO plants (sea water
reverse osmosis) for drinkable water or irrigation purposes, by promoting
tailor made solutions both for the public sector and the hotel industry.
